Finding a woman to spend the rest of your life with is one thing, but finding a potential wife worth spending the rest of your life with is another matter entirely.
And since you are considering looking for a wife overseas Peru is a really great country to consider on your search.
You are probably considering taking your new mail order bride back to the United States, Canada, or wherever you are from, but at the beginning of the process why not look in countries you might actually want to move to someday? This will open a lot of options for you.
Peru has great weather, low cost of living, and a lot of world class amenities in the main cities like Lima. It consistently ranks high on lists of the best places in the world to retire.
It has world class beaches on the Pacific Ocean, world class mountains, the Andes, and a world class city in Lima. And Peru is 52% cheaper than the United States.
The way marriage and family is viewed in the Western world has changed dramatically over the last few decades. Birth rates are dropping, divorce rates are soaring, and women are waiting until much later in life before even considering looking for a husband.
There are many reasons for the above situation, but that doesn't change the fact that it makes finding a wife way more difficult than it ever has been. And that's exactly why more guys just like you are looking at countries like Peru in their search for a foreign bride.
A “mail order bride” offers the path of least resistance when it comes to getting married because they want to get married just as much as you do.
In fact, most non-Western cultures view women who don't want to create a “nuclear family” as being just a little bit odd.
Traveling To Peru
Peru is only about a six to maybe a nine-hour flight from almost anywhere in the United States. And generally, the tickets are pretty reasonable.
If you expect to be introduced to a long line of impoverished farm girls looking to escape to North America, Europe or Australasia…well you're in for a big surprise.
Yes, there are plenty of Peruvian women from poorer families whose only goal is to meet a foreign guy they can marry and move to another country with.
`The locals call them “busca gringas”, and they shouldn't be too difficult to pick out in a crowd.
But there are just as many single, professional Peruvian women who want to marry foreign guys for lots of other reasons.
Some of these do include better opportunities and more equality for them as North American or European citizens, but it has more to do with the fact that the lifestyles and beliefs of Western men are more aligned with her own.
Peruvian men tend to be macho, Latinos. They expect their women to jump when they say jump and Peruvian women realize American, Canadian, and European guys are likely to be a lot more laid back, particularly older guys.
As one American woman explained about Peru, “It’s impossible to talk about this part of the world without acknowledging the machismo that permeates its culture.”
The British magazine, The Economist, explained that: “In Latin America it feeds off a culture of machismo, a chest-thumping sort of masculinity that can either smother women in domesticity or degrade them. Successful women brim with tales of the insensitivity and cluelessness they encounter.”
Basically, Peruvian men tend to push masculine prerogatives more than American men ever have – literally. A lot of what they get away with would have been unacceptable in the United States in 1987 or 1787.
Even a conservative American guy who wants a traditional 1950s style American marriage is going to come off like Alan Alda in Lima – far kinder and more compassionate than most local men.
And Western men have a super reputation in Lima. Why? Well, it's unlikely that a guy who travels all the way to Peru to find his foreign bride is the type that sits around all day drinking, smoking and watching TV.
Any man willing to go on an international dating adventure is unlikely to lack ambition or be a lazy slob, and that's exactly what Peruvian women are looking for – a real man.
And most men looking for a mail order bride are really romantics – in the end they love women. That drives women crazy all over the world.
Where Peruvian women will meet with your expectations are in their attitude towards life, their conservative values in regard to family, but their Latin fire when it comes to matters of intimacy.
In fact, there is a very good chance she'll cook you dinner, then make you breakfast in the morning because that's just how things are done here.
It feels weird to even think about a woman doing that for you, doesn't it? Why should it feel weird when it's exactly what Western women expect and often get from their men…but men never get the same treatment in return.
They also never try to work any kind of angle when getting to know you.
Yes, there are female scammers on the dating scene here, but when you're dating a genuine Peruvian girl (nena for short), you'll find she's more interested in your character than your credit card.
Sure, she'd like you to be rich, but that won't be the deciding factor when it comes to whether or not she'll marry you.
Nenas are interested in having a balanced life with you, and for her that should include having a family, being a parent, exploring new opportunities in life, and maybe even having a career.
What You Need To Know About Nenas
This might sound like a strange factoid to start off with, but never, ever make fun of Peru, or its history. Women here are fiercely proud of both their country and their culture, regardless of how rich or poor they are.
In fact, you should spend a little time learning a little about Peruvian culture and history.
Peruvian women will expect you to be masculine, strong and decisive and that her role will be that of a “wife”. That's not to say that they're weirdly subservient, but that's the culture she grew up in.
So, you can expect to have a fight on your hands if you want her to be more liberal, or – and this is the ultimate sin – to place less importance on her family.
Peru itself is mostly coastline, with the interior dominated by the Andes Mountains. Most of the bigger towns and cities are located near the coastline, which means that people tend to enjoy an active lifestyle.
It's bikini season all year round in Peru, and women stay in shape as a result. They're not as vain as their Western counterparts, but they do believe in maintaining their appearance simply because that's what all their female friends do.
Because there's such a mix of ethnicities in Peru, it's difficult to describe exactly what the women here look like.
Women from more rural areas definitely have stronger Native American looks than the women who live in the cities. And that's not even to say that all rural girls look one way either.
What you can expect is for the vast majority of women to have long dark hair, brown eyes, tanned skin and petite figures. Petite doesn't necessarily mean small, so petite but voluptuous is probably a bit more accurate.
The smoldering Latin American looks are present everywhere you look. In fact, the number of beautiful women here is almost overwhelming, so don't kick yourself if you think you're falling in love every 5 minutes.
Your average nena will look and carry herself like a model, but act like the girl next door. Women here are friendly and approachable, but also incurable romantics.
Tread lightly when it comes to making romantic gestures – you can break a nena's heart without ever meaning to. Overall though Peruvian women are fun to be around – they're adventurous and eager to try new experiences.
Fortunately Peru hasn't been overrun with tourists or players, so you'll find that nenas are still open to meeting, dating and marrying a gringo.
What do they look for in a foreign man? Ideally blonde hair, blue eyes and broad shoulders, but they're just as open to meeting guys with all kinds of different looks.
Women who have dated gringos before will speak almost perfect English, but that also means they've probably dated a lot of foreign guys.
Does that make them bad news? Not really – maybe she just hasn't found the perfect foreign guy yet. If you want to be able to hold down a conversation with women here then you'll need to learn at least conversational Spanish.
Her Family Values
You are almost guaranteed to be introduced to her family early on in your relationship, especially if you’ve told her “I love you”, because that's the next best thing to a marriage proposal to her.
Family is paramount to women here, both their own family and their interest in building a family with their future husband.
That's why nenas tend to bond with their Western boyfriends very quickly – they don't see any point in dating for three years, being engaged for several more, and then finally get married almost a decade later.
The traditional approach here in Peru is dating for a year, marriage shortly after that and then to expect kids almost immediately after getting married.
Even though they can follow that path with Peruvian men, there's a tiny problem there – cheating. It's almost endemic here, and is the rule rather than being the exception.
Western guys cheat too, but not on the scale that Peruvian women have sadly become accustomed to. They also know that cheating in the West is grounds for divorce, so that's another reason why they favor gringos over local guys.
Finding Your Perfect Peruvian Bride
Finding girls for marriage in Peru is pretty much the same as any other international dating experience in that you can choose to go it alone, use dating websites, romance tours or dating agencies. So we're going to take a look at each of these options in turn.
Free dating sites are extremely popular in this part of the world, but you have to be realistic about the quality of girls you find there.
Some of the free sites work on a system where you can earn more “credits” from interacting with girls, but that's not exactly an indication of quality.
Sites that offer paid/premium memberships usually cost around $30 per month, with discounts offered if you sign up for 3 or 12 months in advance.
The credits system is also used on many of the “free to join” sites, so you have to buy bundles of credits to allow you to access all the features of the site.
These credit bundles are often far more than the cost of a premium membership on other dating sites.
Regardless of which dating site you sign up for, your focus should be on making your profile as clickable as possible. How you go about doing this is to not mimic the profiles of other guys on the site.
Be unique, stand out from the crowd, and include interests you know nenas would find interesting e.g. family, travel, romance, and dancing.
You also need to be really picky when it comes to choosing which girls to date. Never invest all your time and effort in just one girl, no matter how stunning she is.
Falling in love with a girl's profile is an easy thing to do, but you need to meet her in real life to make sure she's everything you expected.
A major cultural difference in online dating you need to be aware of are expressing the idea of love, or referring to any nena as your girlfriend.
Doing either instantly places you in a “serious relationship” with her, even if that's not what you meant. This is a cultural difference you really do need to watch out for.
If you go looking for dating agencies in Peru you'll come up short. Searching for marriage agencies, on the other hand, will present you with several companies to choose from.
There are only a handful of marriage and matchmaking agencies in the country, and the ones that exist tend to charge a fee to join, and then an additional fee for every other service they provide e.g. providing contact details, passing messages to the girl you want to chat to, arranging a video chat, etc.
This can easily result in you spending $150 per month for chatting to the same women you can meet on a regular dating site for $30 per month.
Latin Singles Tours
The legitimate dating agencies tend to only offer romance tours, or they work closely with companies that organize these tours for men from North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
In terms of costs, well that all depends on how many nights you want to spend in Peru? Remember it's a big country, so although you might find your ideal bride on the first night, it's good to keep your options open.
This is doubly true when you consider just how many attractive women you'll meet on any trip to Peru.
Romance tour prices are usually minus the cost of flights, so 7-night singles tours to Peru start at $1,795, with 10-night trips costing around $2,600.
Again, always check with the tour organizer for a complete schedule of what their fee covers.
In most cases it covers hotel, accommodation, transport and social events, but never make any assumptions when it comes to this stuff.
A Personal Peruvian Adventure
Your other option is to combine a solo trip with online dating sites, for the dating adventure of a lifetime.
This means putting more work into organizing your romantic vacation to Peru, but it also gives you more freedom when it comes to choosing how much time you'll spend in any one location.
Skills you'll need to make the most of your dating trip to Peru include learning at least conversational Spanish, and also learning how to dance.
Dancing is basically Peru's national sport, and if you can't dance then you really do stand out like a sore thumb in any social gathering.
Learning to dance also gives you the perfect way to break the ice with your Latina of choice. It's the most natural way to strike up a conversation and spend some time with a beautiful woman in a way that she loves.
Meeting women during the day isn't as difficult as it might sound. Peruvian women love taking care of their appearance, so that has an obvious connection to shopping. In fact, all women love to shop, and nenas are no different here.
So, while taking in some of the sights and sounds of Lima and other cities, make sure you spend some time in and around local malls and plazas.
This is where women congregate, giving you plenty of opportunities to ask for directs to the nearest café or museum.
Peruvian Marriage and Visas
Before we even get started on this section, it's worth mentioning that getting married in any South American country is an exercise in frustration, red tape and unnecessary bureaucracy.
But that's the nature of the system in this part of the world.
The only marriages viewed as legal in Peru are those that take place in a city hall. Religious ceremonies are just fine and dandy, but they are not considered to be legally binding contracts.
That probably comes as something of a surprise considering that Peru is a predominantly Christian country, but again, that's just how things are here.
If you plan on getting married in Peru you will need the following:
- Your birth certificate
- Your passport
- To have passed a medical examination
- A document declaring your are single (Certificado de Soltería)
The medical examination is usually more of a formality than a rigorous physical examination. Even when the doctors do actually examine you it's more for blood-related diseases such as AIDS, or other similar infectious diseases.
It's a good idea to factor in how much she'll miss her family if part of your plan is to bring your bride back home with you. If that's to North America, then she's only a few hours from family and friends.
But if you expect her to move halfway across the globe with you, then understand how much you'd miss your own family if you were in her shoes.
Peru is a great place to meet a Christian woman with conservative family values. They're not the only “type” of woman you'll meet here, but they're in the majority.
Yes, feminism does exist here, but not on the same scale it does in North America or Europe. Peruvian women are less interested in protesting and more interested in finding, dating and marrying the man of their dreams.
Plus, the odds are stacked in your favor here – there are currently 500,000 more single women in Peru than there are single men.
The only thing left you for you to do is choose what method you'll use to find your future Peruvian bride.
