Costa Rica is an amazing place to find the mail order bride of your dreams. It combines the best of the West with the laid back Latin style.
It is safe, beautiful, and close to the United States and Canada. More importantly, the women are sexy and they love American men.
What else do you want?
The weather is almost perfect. It had two oceans, gorgeous mountains, great architecture, awesome food, and cheap prices. Really, Costa Rica is incredible!
The desire to find a mate and have children is hard-wired into your DNA. People can stand around all day shouting about 65 genders, but the thing is that biology doesn't care.
At a cellular level all your biology cares about is making sure that it can pass your genetic code on to the next generation. If you want to take a spiritual slant on it, then it's how we live on after our death – all thanks to DNA.
In Western and First World countries – such as Europe, North America and Australia – the challenge facing most men right now is based on a growing number of women being taught that getting married and having kids should take second place to furthering their career.
Sadly the flaw in this lifestyle choice doesn't hit home with a lot of women until they reach their late 30s and realize that having kids isn't something you're simply entitled to.
What that means for Western guys is that the already-shallow pool of dating prospects in their home country has dwindled to the point that looking overseas for foreign brides makes way more sense.
After all, why in the hell would you invest months or years of your life trying to convince a Western woman to marry you when there are thousands of single women in Costa Rica just itching to meet nice guys like you?
Why You Should Date & Marry A Woman From Costa Rica
When it comes down to it guys are actually very simple creatures. They want to find a girl, fall in love, get married and then stay with their wife for the rest of their life.
That ties in with a primal urge to pass your DNA along, and marriage is just a way of formalizing that process.
As we mentioned above the mere idea of suggesting marriage to a Western woman, not in her 40s is likely to get you branded sexist, or misogynistic, or any of a number of other cute buzz words doing the rounds right now.
The situation had gotten so bad that the MGTOW (Men Going Their Own Way) movement has picked up so much momentum that even the lunatic feminists are starting to pay attention to it.
The crazy thing is that it's actually in a woman's best interests to get married and have kids, and that's not some throwback to the quaint idea of the woman staying at home while the man goes out to work.
Nope. There are actual positive biological and psychological benefits to finding a good guy and settling down to start a family with him.
Dating a Costa Rican girl, or Tica for short, means you don't have to worry about managing your expectations in terms of what your relationship with her will be like.
You won't have to beg and plead to start a family, or explain why owning an in-ground pool is not at the top of your list of priorities right now.
What you'll find instead is a female partner who wants to build a future with you. The struggles and headaches you experience with North American and European women simply don't exist on the dating scene in Costa Rica.
And in the rare circumstances you do date a Tica who starts bleating about the “gender pay gap” and “equality regardless of merit”, you can rest assured she is the exception rather than the rule.
What Does a Costa Rican Woman Look for in a Man?
The average Tica is looking for guys who look and act like men, but who won't treat them like a possession when dating or after marriage.
You see, in Costa Rica the local guys will treat their girlfriend like a princess…until they're married. Once that day comes she's expected to play second fiddle to all his wants, desires and dreams regardless of it makes her feel.
Basically, she's expected to stay at home, have babies, cook meals, and keep her mouth shut.
Her tico husband, on the other hand, is free to do whatever he likes, and that includes cheating on her. And if she does complain her husband will walk out on her, and their kids, without a second thought.
She doesn't expect her gringo boyfriend (that’s you, by the way – a gringo) or fiancé to be a certain age, or a certain weight, to own a specific type of car or be earning x amount of cash before she'll consider dating him.
Even if you're “poor” by North American standards, you'll be considered quite wealthy here.
Well because the average annual salary earned by a blue collar worker in Costa Rica is US$7,000 per year.
Ticas don't have anything like the opportunities available to North American or European women. So, yes, part of the reason she wants to marry a foreign guy is to have a better life in a more developed country.
Who doesn’t want that for themselves?
Her Likes and Dislikes
One important note is that single women outnumber single men here. Ticas can sometimes be a little bit pickier when it comes to choosing a boyfriend.
For example, they prefer taller men, and also prefer men with dark hair and brown eyes.
But bear in mind that's what most Costa Rican men look like, so being a guy with blonde or red hair makes you stand out from the crowd. That's a good thing.
Single Costa Rican girls stay active, toned and fit, so they expect the same thing from their men. That doesn't mean you need to be a Mr. Olympian contestant, but a gigantic beer gut isn't going to do you any favors.
Financial stability is a huge thing for women here, and it's probably the biggest deal breaker there is on the dating scene.
Your Tica girlfriend won’t expect you to be a millionaire, but if you're living off social welfare payments then she probably won't have very much interest in dating you over the long term. Or you'll have to work harder to make that happen.
Other pet hates for her include cheating, lying, laziness, being late for dates, procrastination, and behaving in a way that a gentleman wouldn't.
Just bear in mind they're still women, which means sometimes even they don't know what they want!
What Costa Rican Women Are Really Like
South American women care about how they look and carry themselves their entire lives, and not just up to the point they land themselves a husband.
A lot of Western men simply find it difficult to stay attracted to women who wind up looking like Mamma Fratelli from ‘The Goonies'. Western women have the same standards, but with finances playing a key role too.
You've probably already heard on the “mail order bride” grapevine that ticas have no problem with marrying older guys.
While that doesn't mean all of them are blind to age, at least 40% of the women surveyed on this question said they'd have no problem dating a respectable, responsible man who is 10 or 20 years older than her.
But ticas are all about equal opportunity when it comes to finding a husband, so they're also happy to date guys who are younger than them.
Again, this isn't something you find with Western women who are busier mentally ticking boxes off their ‘boyfriend shopping list' than they are paying attention to the qualities of the man they're currently dating or in a relationship with.
So…are Costa Rican women as beautiful as you've heard they are?
There's a really deep mix of ethnicities in the country, but over 83% of the women are white, or mestizo (mixed race). You'll find Spanish, Portuguese, South American and European genetic influences everywhere you look.
So, although the majority of the women here have olive skin, dark hair and brown eyes, you're just as likely to meet a stunning blonde or two.
They also have a natural sensuality about them – they exude sexiness without even trying. And when they do put effort into impressing their man…take two steps back and prepare to be stunned.
Ticas love hugging and kissing in public. Public displays of affection here are considered natural and normal, within obvious limits.
So, just for once you won't have to worry about showing your girlfriend how much you care for her without being told she's “…not into public displays of affection.”
Their femininity is important to them, and that means they appreciate their bodies and put effort into staying in shape.
Ticas are also extremely compassionate, and will do everything they can to keep their men happy. That doesn't mean you can walk all over them, but they're much “warmer” than North American or European women.
They're also way more grounded than most Western women you'll meet, mostly because they haven't been brainwashed by TV and the media into having ridiculous expectations from life and from their men.
Something else you'll dig about these women is their work ethic. There are no couch potatoes here because their culture doesn't allow it or call for it.
Costa Rican women also tend to look at the big picture when it comes to life, not sweating the smaller material details that other women put so much focus on.
Family is very important to them, which is true of most women in South America, and is something lost on most Western women. They're also great cooks, so you might struggle to keep the pounds off once your Costa Rican bride hits the kitchen.
In a nutshell, all of the above just means that Costa Rican women make great girlfriends and even better wives.
Costa Rican Dating Facts
A lot of the international dating sites will advise that you need to learn at least some Spanish before hitting the online or offline dating scene in Cost Rica.
The reality is that single Costa Rican girls are usually well educated, and many of them speak at least some English. It won't do any harm to take some Spanish lessons, but it's not an absolute requirement.
As we mentioned earlier on, Costa Rican men have a habit of walking out on their families, and especially on pregnant girlfriends. The net result of this is that single mothers are quite common here.
And because annual salaries are so low, a single mother's earning potential will mean she has to live with her family.
Even ticas who aren't single mothers still tend to live with their families until they get married because that’s what’s expected of them.
How all of this works in your favor is because Western men usually don't have a problem dating single mothers back home.
So, even if you find yourself striking out with the 100% single girls, you'll find thousands of single Tica moms looking for love and romance.
The international dating scene being what it is means you need to pay attention to becoming a victim of any dating scams here.
There's the obvious stuff like never sending money to women you don't know, and to never provide your virtual Tica girlfriend with any personal information about you unless you have good reason to.
Any unexplained absence when virtual dating is also a warning sign – usually around excuses of not having internet access. The truth is she probably has 10 guys on the go at once and lost track of who you are.
Women using fake profile pictures is a common scam, so don't base your decision to date a girl solely on images – you should chat over Skype a few times to make sure she is who she says she is.
Any excuses around not having a camera or phone are also an issue – half the planet has cell phones now, so if she's not willing to speak with you or video chat with you then that's a problem.
Something else to watch out for is any weird language patterns in her messages. Her English should be good, but not perfect. If every message she sends you is in perfectly composed English then somebody else is writing her messages for her.
Once in Costa Rica, a huge warning sign is if she refuses to introduce you to her friends or family.
Okay, she might not offer to do that on a first date, but if she keeps coming up with excuses as to why you can’t meet any other people in her life…well, that's not a good sign.
Finding Your Costa Rican Bride
Once you've decided that Costa Rican girls sound ideal for dating and marriage, you need to decide how you're going to meet them.
One of the best pieces of advice we can give you is that finding the ideal bride takes time. You'll probably find yourself so overwhelmed by the Costa Rican women you talk to that you're tempted to decide there and then.
But why the rush? After all, you only want to get married once, right?
So, start your journey with the obvious places like online dating sites.
Latin Dating Sites
The below average annual salaries in Costa Rica have a knock-on effect on the price of dating sites here. You can expect to pay anywhere from $6 to $30 per month for a standard membership package on the most popular sites.
As usual, it's best to avoid the “100% free” sites as there's always a catch – which is usually thousands of fake profiles and the scammers are working for the dating site itself.
A great tip for cutting down the amount of time you spend on dating sites is to have a clear picture of the type of girl you want to meet.
That doesn't necessarily mean her physical appearance, but you need to decide on what you do and don't want in a woman.
That can include age, height, has children, eye color, etc. Just be honest with yourself about the type of woman you want, and then filter everyone else out – you can always widen your search parameters later on.
Ignore any girls who ask for money or gifts, and the same applies to women saying they'd love to call you but can't afford a cell phone. Basically just use common sense and you'll steer clear of the scammers with little or no effort.
Latin Romance Tours
These are no different to singles tours you see everywhere else, they just happen to be for single Western men looking to find, date and fall in love with a Costa Rican girl.
They're also the next step for you to consider if you haven't found the woman you're looking for online. Instead of investing several hours in chatting to just one cute girl, a well-organized singles tour can introduce you to dozens of beautiful Latinas in a single night.
A typical holiday of this type costs around $2,395 for a 7-night trip, including hotel accommodation, airport pickup, and the various social events they've organized for you and the other guys.
Always check whether or not your flights are included in your romance tour package – most tour operators are very transparent about this, but it never hurts to ask.
You'll need to budget for another $400 to cover flights from North America in the event they're not included in your package. That gives you a more realistic total cost of about $2,800 for your holiday in Costa Rica.
If you decide to use a dating agency you should choose with care because many of them are nothing more than expensive scams.
The initial “Registration fee” can seem quite affordable, and it is until you're then presented with a menu of other fees such as “Introduction fees” and “Arrangement fees”, each of the more expensive than the last fee you paid.
Some of them even have the cojones to ask for a “Mandatory donation” to continue using their services. How can a donation be mandatory? Exactly!
That might sound like we're suggesting that all Costa Rican dating agencies are scams, but that's not the case. You just need to exercise caution when using them, and walk away if they present you with a list of fees they can't explain or that don't make sense.
Marrying a Costa Rican Bride
Even if you're not at a stage where marriage to your Tica is on the cards, it's still a good idea to understand what the process involves.
The first things you'll need as a foreigner are a copy of your birth certificate and your passport. You also need to get something called a “Certification of Civil status” which basically states that you're not already married.
Your country's embassy in Costa Rica can assist you with this document. Your spouse will also need to request a copy of the same document for themselves.
The process of going back and forth with embassies and other government bodies can take anywhere from 4 – 12 weeks before you get the documents you need. There's an element of luck involved here.
Finally, you will need to hire a lawyer to organize the legal aspects of your wedding. The government here doesn't recognize marriages that are only conducted as part of a religious ceremony.
If, however, you simply want to bring your Tica back home with you, then your only real costs are for her visa and your flights.
Costa Rica is a great place to meet women who are an intoxicating mix of raw sensuality and conservative family values. They are fiery and exotic, but utterly traditional in how they view life and gender roles.
Women here understand that being feminine isn't a bad thing, and that for men to be masculine is both healthy and normal.
Costa Rican mail order brides embody everything a Christian man would want in a wife, with the same going for atheists or agnostics.
We don't want to say they're perfect, but they're pretty damned close.
